What APS India is
APS India is the Science Section of the German Embassy in New Delhi. It verifies academic documents and qualifications issued by Indian institutions for applicants who intend to study in Germany, and the certificate is part of the documentation generally required for the German student visa procedure.
Two things it is not: it is not an admission decision by a university, and it is not a visa decision by the German mission. You still apply to universities and for the visa separately.
The six steps
- Find your procedure. Which APS path applies depends on your situation, so start on the official site.
- Read the checklist and deadlines for that path before you prepare anything.
- Collect your academic documents and any translations the checklist requires.
- Create an APS account and register.
- Pay the processing fee online. Processing starts once payment and documents have arrived.
- Send the documents and follow the progress in your account.

Where the dMAT fits
From 2026 the dMAT is an additional element of the APS documentation process for Indian graduates applying to Master's programmes. It applies to degrees in Engineering, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business and Management, for the summer semester 2027 intake and later. Exemptions are listed for applicants who completed APS online registration or shipped complete documents before 29 June 2026, and for confirmed exchange, double-degree and partnership programmes.

A sensible order of work
- Shortlist programmes and check each one's deadline and entry requirements.
- Start APS as early as the checklist allows, because it sits before the visa.
- Prepare language proof (IELTS or German) in parallel.
- Sit the dMAT if your degree and intake require it.
- Apply to universities, then book the visa appointment once you have an admission.
