What one full mock includes
| Part | Questions | Time | What you practise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Listening | 40 (4 parts) | about 30 minutes + 2 minutes to check | Form, note and table completion, multiple choice, matching, map labelling. Each recording plays once in exam mode, with time to read the questions first. |
| Reading | 40 (3 passages) | 60 minutes | True/False/Not Given, Yes/No/Not Given, matching headings, matching information and features, sentence endings, summary, table, flow-chart and diagram completion. |
| Writing | Task 1 + Task 2 | 60 minutes | Line, bar and pie charts, tables, processes and maps; opinion, discussion, problem/solution and two-part essays. |
| Speaking | Parts 1, 2 and 3 | 11-14 minutes | Familiar topics, a cue card with one minute to prepare, and abstract discussion. Your answers are recorded and transcribed. |
Twenty mocks, five levels
The mocks get harder step by step, so you can see your band rise rather than re-taking one test you already know.
| Mocks | Level | Topics (examples) |
|---|---|---|
| 1-4 | Medium | food waste, community gardens, noise research, exam stress research |
| 5-8 | Hard | coastal fieldwork, advertising history, a marketing survey, a group project on water |
| 9-12 | Very Hard | microplastics research, a dissertation on urban heat, replicating experiments, a fieldwork plan |
| 13-16 | Band 8+ | microfinance research, an archaeology placement, a nutrition study, a debate on online exams |
| 17-20 | Band 9 Challenge | a seminar on zoos, a research ethics seminar, an economics tutorial, a seminar on AI in assessment |
How the mock is scored
Listening and Reading are marked automatically, including the rules that cost marks in the real test: answers over the word limit score zero, and spelling must be exact. Raw scores are converted with the commonly published 40-question tables (see the band score calculator). Writing is estimated on the four official criteria - Task Achievement/Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy - and Speaking on Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammar and Pronunciation. These are clearly labelled practice estimates, not official scores.
After the test: where you lose marks
- Accuracy and time per question type (for example: 61% on True/False/Not Given, 92% on form completion)
- A mistakes log that sorts every wrong answer by cause: spelling, word limit, misreading, paraphrase confusion, inference error or running out of time
- Targeted practice sets of 10, 20 or 40 questions on your weakest question type
- A daily study plan that gives more time to the skills furthest from your target band
Tips for taking a mock seriously
- Use exam mode: one play of each recording, a strict 60-minute Reading clock.
- Sit at a desk, phone away, in one session - stamina is part of the test.
- Review every mistake the same day and note its cause.
- Take a new mock every 3-5 days in the last month, not the same one again.
Frequently asked questions
Is the IELTS mock test really free?
Yes. Full Mock 1 - all four skills with band estimates and analytics - is free without paying. Mocks 2 to 20 are part of full access.
Are these real IELTS papers?
No. IELTS does not publish its live tests. Every passage, recording and question here is original practice material written to the published IELTS Academic format, timing and question types.
How accurate is the band score?
Listening and Reading use the widely published raw-score tables, which vary slightly between test versions, so treat the result as a close estimate. Writing and Speaking estimates are automated and cannot replace a trained examiner.
Can I take the mock on my phone?
Yes, it works on phones, tablets and computers. For the most realistic practice, use a computer, as in the computer-delivered test.
How many correct answers do I need for band 7, 8 or 9?
Roughly 30, 35 and 39 out of 40 in Listening, and 30, 35 and 39 in Academic Reading. Use the band score calculator for the full table.
